In 1814, John McDonald, Pastor of Chapel Street Presbyterian Church in Albany, New York preached a sermon on America in Prophecy. Rev. McDonald’s sermon might be the earliest attempt at identifying the United States in prophecy. Pastor McDonald often preached from the book of Isaiah. The promised restoration of the Jewish people to Israel and the consequent redemption of the world intrigued him.

For two years McDonald struggled to understand the meaning of Isaiah 18. The truth of this chapter evaded him until 1814. He understood the allegorical language used in this chapter as speaking of the United States and its responsibility to carry the gospel message to the Jewish people. McDonald believed from this chapter that God had called America in these last days to bring the message of Messiah to the Jewish people. He also believed God wanted the United States to help the Jewish people become established in the land of Israel.

Although I am in full accord with both of McDonald’s desires, I have differences with his understanding of Isaiah 18. The simple fact is that the United States is not in the prophetic scriptures of the end time. Such passages as Jeremiah 50, Ezekiel 38, and Revelation 18 are texts used by individuals to speak of the United States. They are, as Isaiah 18, speculation at best, and, if we are honest with the text, not speaking of the United States.

Prophetic Implication

In the first three verses of Zechariah 12, we are told in the last days, before the return of the Messiah, all the nations of the world will turn against the re-gathered nation of Israel. If great events cast their shadows before them, and I believe they do, one can easily see that we are probably close to the time Zechariah spoke of.

The key prophecy for our concluding we are living in the “last days” is the rebirth of Israel in 1948. Scriptures such as Ezekiel 37:1-11 and Isaiah 11:11-12 teach us the Lord will start bringing the Jewish people back a second time into the land of Israel. This return will be from a world-wide captivity. This is the time period for the return of the Messiah. The rebirth of Israel in 1948 is the initial prop in the end time drama that will cause the unfolding of prophesied events of the “last days.” As things are falling into place on the world scene it seems the coming of Jesus must be soon.

Present events, in light of biblical prophecy, lead us to the conclusion that we are living in the immediate time preceding the tribulation period and the coming of our King. The stage is being set for the greatest drama the world will ever see – the return of Jesus.  The curtain could go up at any time. We are living in the shadow of the Tribulation.

If this is true, one has to wonder about the place of the United States in the end time scenario. Obviously, Zechariah’s “all nations” will include the United States, and every other nation in the world, if we make it to the end of the tribulation period. Silence in the scriptures on the U.S., though, makes one wonder about its place in prophecy. When we realize that America is presently the strongest power in the world, we must ask the question – where is the U.S. in end time events?  If we are close to the prophesied Tribulation Period of seven years, how come the U.S. is not clearly mentioned in the end time prophecies of the Bible?

If we are honest with the text of the Bible the reality is the U.S. is not in end time prophecy. The question must then be asked, Why are we not in Bible prophecy?  What becomes of this large and great nation in God’s plan. Although America is not directly spoken of in the Bible there is much we can gleam from God’s dealings with other nations. God is consistent in his character and nature. The maxim “righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Prov. 14:34) speaks to us of what will exalt a nation to greatness and what will ultimately lead a nation to its destruction. What can we learn from God’s dealings with other nations and its implications for the United States?

Babylon

Ancient Babylon had much in common with the present situation in the United States. They were the leaders in the different pursuits of the world. They equaled or surpassed all other nations in education, commerce, medicine, art, athletics, and a myriad of other things. No other nation could match them. In the eyes of the nations, Babylon was the envy of all.

Militarily the nation of Babylon had no equals. None could match her strength or power. Huge walls surrounded the city of Babylon. Historians tell us the outer wall was 87 feet wide and 311 feet high. A moat at least 30’ wide circled the walls. Entrance to the city was through solid brass doors. The moat received its water supply from the Euphrates River and the city received its water from this source as well. Babylon was virtually impregnable.

The United States is much like ancient Babylon. We are among the world leaders in commerce, education, medicine, etc. Militarily we have no rivals at this time in history. The nations of the world recognize the United States as the primary superpower on the earth.

Babylon met her destruction quickly and unexpectedly. Isaiah 47 gives us at least six reasons for this destruction. When we consider the United States in light of what led to Babylon’s destruction it is both informative and foreboding.

A Destructive Course

Isaiah very clearly prophesied the coming destruction of Babylon in Isaiah 47. Verses 1-3, 5, 9, 11, and 15 speak of the ultimate destiny that history tells us happened to that ancient power. In verse nine it tells us that the destruction would take place in one day.

Babylon was having one of their famous extended parties. The entire city would be involved and the merriment could go on for weeks. Daniel 5 tells us about this party.

Official Babylonian court records say the armies of the Persians entered the city and captured it without a battle. The ancient historian Herodotus tells us more. As the party was going on inside the walls, Cyrus, the leader of the Persians, diverted the Euphrates River into a canal. The water level that fed the moat and the city dropped to a height where the soldiers of the Persians could walk under the wall into the city. Merriment and drunkenness among the people of the city left them completely unprotected. Babylon was captured in one day, as the prophet of God said, and Babylon no longer reigned supreme.

Causes of Destruction

Isaiah 47 tells of six sins that prompted God to bring judgment upon the nation of Babylon. As we briefly look at these six causes of destruction, it is sobering to realize that all six are rampant in the United States.

1)     Anti-Semitism – Verse 6 tells us that although God was going to use Babylon to discipline His nation Israel, Babylon went far beyond protocol and “showed them no mercy.” 2nd Chronicles 36:17, Jeremiah 38:22-23, and Lamentations 5:11-13 give additional insight into the lack of compassion. A reason for this was that the nation of Babylon had a hatred for the Jewish people.

During the Babylonian captivity, one can see the hatred of the Jewish people in the book of Esther when Haman plotted the destruction of them. This hatred was not limited to only one individual such as Haman. The Jewish sages write that the King of Babylonia, Ahasuerus, hated the Jewish people more than Haman (Esther Rabba 4:12).

Anti-Semitism is a curse that invites the judgment of God. Genesis 12:3 is vividly clear, pointedly accurate, and presently active concerning God’s response to one’s treatment of the Jewish people. God will bless those that bless the Jew and He will curse those that curse the Jew.

Nations that have persecuted the Jewish people fill the graveyards of the world. Dr. Charles E. Pont in his book  World’s Collision, said it well,

Anti-Semites are not only the enemies of the Jews, they are their own enemies and the enemies of mankind….All from Pharaoh to Hitler have been horribly judged for having fashioned a sword against these people. Czarist Russia came to an inglorious end as did Hitlerism and Fascism. Many of these loud-mouthed anti-semites either committed suicide or were slain….But what about the children of Israel? Like Old Man River they seem to roll along in spite of it all.”

Babylon was a great and powerful nation. Anti-Semitism was the first of the things that caused her destruction. Tragically, the United States is heading down the same road.1 Anti-Semitic acts are increasing in our nation. Our support for Israel, though sometimes up and sometimes down, has been eroding over the last 20-25 years. The denial of the holocaust, growing at an alarming rate, is a manifestation of the increasing anti-Semitism in our society. It is sad that professing Christians are joining in this denial of a historical tragedy that is so well documented. Judgment is inevitable if we go the way of Babylon in our attitude and action toward the Jewish people and Israel.

2)     National Pride (vs. 7a, 8b) – Babylon was a nation lifted up with pride. Her many accomplishments, powerful military, and economic status made her invincible in her own mind. Her thoughts were that she would be a “lady forever.” Babylon’s pride comes across clearly in the statement “I am and none else beside me.” Her thoughts were that she would “not sit as a widow, neither…know the loss of children.” In other words, nations would always have treaties and agreements with her, and she would never see her citizens destroyed by another nation in any war on her shores. As verse nine promised, and history shows, widowhood and the loss of her children happened to that great nation in one day.

The U.S. is heading in the same direction. As a nation, we think we are invincible. Our politicians and citizens continue to chart a course led by immorality, wickedness, and deceit. The few voices raised against the rolling tide seemingly have little effect. Our lifestyle and system degenerate as we go on thinking that we are impervious to any drastic changes to our country. The events of September 11, 2001, although initially shaking us up, have seemingly done little to change the perception of the citizens of the U.S.

What happened to Babylon can and will happen to the United States if we continue to chart the same course. As it says in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction.”

3)     Luxurious and Careless Living (vs.  8a) – Famous in the ancient world was the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. These gardens were one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. They were indicative of the luxury the people of Babylon enjoyed.

The people of Babylon were consumed with the wealth and materialism of this world. This pursuit of pleasure led to very careless living such as the aforementioned party that led to their destruction. “Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly” is the problem stated before the warning. The people were oblivious to the coming judgment because of their wealth and pleasures.

The United States is not much different. Luxury and pleasure seem to be the cornerstones of our culture. Over the last 50 years we can see a very noticeable decline in our society. We have gone from a morally outstanding, religiously centered nation to one of hedonism. Is it possible to continue on this path without God’s judgment when other nations have been judged for the same sins?

4)     Occult and Drugs (vs. 9b, 12-13) – The Babylonian society was inundated with the occult. The prophet of God sarcastically challenges the people of Babylon to seek their astrologers, stargazers, and monthly prognosticators for deliverance. “Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.” The invitation is to see if they will save them from the impending prophesied doom. But, they are impotent when confronting the judgment of the God of Israel.

America is no different from Babylon in this regard. Astrology is a multibillion dollar a year business. The cults and the occult permeate every level of our society. No longer are we a nation that believes in the God of the Bible. We have forsaken the blessings of God for the delusions of the occultic world. The astonishing phenomena of the Harry Potter books and movie show how gullible and open our society is to witchcraft and sorcery. Amazingly, even evangelical Christian leaders have spoken well of this story line of a young, innocent man who embraces witchcraft and sorcery. Many schools have used the Harry Potter books for reading and discussion. We can’t instruct our students about the God of creation but we do instruct them on the how-to of witchcraft and sorcery. How far have the mighty fallen?

Drugs are also a major problem in our society. The drug problem in the United States goes beyond illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin and the like. One of the greatest causes of death in our society is from prescription drugs. Prescription drugs kill more people than guns, high-risk sexual behavior, or motor vehicles according to Dr. Robert W. Schrier. He wrote an editorial in the November 15th, 1994 issue of Hospital Practice and warned, “…we face an epidemic of adverse drug events. In the United States, such events are responsible for 10.8 percent of hospitalizations, occur in 18 to 30 percent of hospitalized patients and account for 14 percent of hospital days. They cause 60,000 to 140,000 deaths every year – far more than the toll from guns (35,000), high risk sexual behavior (30,000) or motor vehicle accidents (25,000).” Roland H. Berg, writing in Look magazine stated. “America’s reliance on drugs is unequaled in the history of mankind.” Although these articles were written years ago nothing has changed as evidenced by a June, 2020 article by the National Institute of Drug Abuse titled, What is the scope of prescription drug misuse? It states, “Misuse of prescription opioids, CNS depressants, and stimulants is a serious public health problem in the United States. Although most people take prescription medications responsibly, in 2017, an estimated 18 million people (more than 6 percent of those aged 12 and older) have misused such medications at least once in the past year. According to results from the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an estimated 2 million Americans misused prescription pain relievers for the first time within the past year, which averages to approximately 5,480 initiates per day. Additionally, more than one million misused prescription stimulants, 1.5 million misused tranquilizers, and 271,000 misused sedatives for the first time…The number of prescriptions for some of these medications has increased dramatically since the early 1990s.” We have also legalized the flow of alcohol, no less a drug than heroin, and this devil’s brew is directly involved in tens of thousands of deaths every year in our country.

The United States’ obsession with drugs is no different than Babylon’s. Peace doesn’t come through a prescription drug nor a bottle. We are told that God “…will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:” (Isaiah 26:3).

5)     Wickedness (vs.10a) – Babylon was renowned for its wicked behavior. Life was cheap and morals were loose. “For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee…” The United States is a world leader in fields such as science, math, and medicine. Our discoveries, inventions, and technology is amazing. Our loss of biblical morality, though, has caused us to use this knowledge too often in a wicked way. For too many years over one million babies are killed every year in the cause of a woman’s choice. “Mercy” killings have been adopted in Oregon and many desire it to be the law of the land. One can only imagine where our new found ability to clone will lead a nation let loose from most moral underpinnings. Babylon was a wicked nation who thought they had all the answers. The United States seems to be no different.

6)     Secular humanism (vs.10b) –   Secular humanism is the denial of God and the deification of man. It sees man as the end of all things and the judge of what is right and wrong. Standards are as the wind, shifting with the whims of man’s foolishness. Babylon embraced this destructive philosophy. “And thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.” The intent of the statement is that man is I AM, the holy name of God, the sovereign authority.

This teaching has permeated the culture of the United States over the last thirty years. It has now become the basic belief system of our culture. The fruit of this philosophy can be seen in the answer given to a question by Dr.  Jeff Myers, professor at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, many years ago. He asked a group of high school students, “Was Adolf Hitler wrong in murdering millions of Jews?”  All but one agreed that, “Hitler was defeated by the Allies. And, in war, like everything else, the victor gets to define reality. The Allies determined that what Hitler had done was wrong. Therefore, he was wrong.”

Only one student said that Hitler was wrong regardless of his winning or losing the war. The students were saying there are no moral absolutes. The victor, essentially, is god and makes the rules. One of the sad things about this is that all these students claimed to be Christians. This understanding doesn’t come from the Bible. It does come from our secular humanistic culture. It seems as if our culture is shaping the minds of even Christians in this country instead of the Bible.

These six sins of Babylon led to her destruction. Proud, arrogant, self-sufficient; all was useless when God’s time of judgment arrived. The verdict was clear, definite, and final. “Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know…none shall save thee,” (Isaiah 47:11, 15c).

We do not like to think that this could happen in the U.S. Until the arise of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 and the subsequent riots, most did not even entertain the possibility of this country being destroyed. We should not be so quick to think this is impossible. Let us not be like Babylon. The six sins that Babylon were immersed in, are, to one degree or another, presently woven into the fabric of this country. As God ultimately brought destruction upon Babylon because of her sins, the same can and, if we continue our course, will happen to the U.S.

 Judgment on the United States

Preachers throughout the United States have been warning for years that God’s judgment will come upon this country. Many recognize that a holy God cannot overlook the sins of a country that has been blessed so abundantly with Christian truth. It has been said: “If God doesn’t judge America He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” I suggest that not only will God judge the United States but He is judging the U.S. and has been judging us for some 60 years.

In Romans 1:21-32 we have a portion of Scripture that has been referred to as the de-evolution of a society. These verses develop how a society or a nation, even one blessed by God, degenerates and ultimately God judges this nation by giving it over to worse and worse sins.  Verse 21 states “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” Notice that “…they knew God.” Although the U.S. was never a Christian nation, I do believe we were founded on the principles of a Judaeo-Christian ethic. It is revisionist history to deny that the United States was established recognizing and honoring Jehovah (God) as the One who enables us to have “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

The downfall of a nation that originally acknowledged God begins with an unthankful attitude and an unwillingness to recognize His greatness. Much has been written about the pros and cons of prayer in our public schools. Arguments of substance, depending on your world view, have been given on both sides. From a theological viewpoint, most prayers from a public school classroom wouldn’t go any higher than the ceiling. It is erroneous for a Bible believing Christian to think that prayers of unregenerate people will be responded to by God. Doesn’t Isaiah tell us: “…your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear,” Isaiah 59:2. The issue of prayer in schools, I believe, is of a more foundational thesis. When we took prayers out of our schools it was exhibiting an attitude of un-thankfulness and a refusal to publically acknowledge that there is a God that “ruleth in the kingdom of men” or, as our text says, “they glorified him not as God.” As a nation, we turned our back on God and started to become centered in ourselves. It precipitated the slippery slope where as a nation we “… became vain in [their] imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”

When man’s thoughts become self-centered, the result will always be sinful pride and rejection of divine truth. We have a tendency to be carried away with our own brilliance and abilities. God’s perspective of prideful man is illuminating. “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” A man wise in his own eyes will never see himself as a fool. Yet, that is how God sees the wisdom of the professing intellectual.

The slippery slope that begins with un-thankfulness and the preoccupation of self, degenerates into vain philosophies. “And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” The God of creation is exchanged for idols. First, man becomes the center of the universe and the answer to all things. In effect, man replaces God. The downward trend continues with the elevation of God’s creatures to the place of God Himself. This degeneration can be vividly seen in the United States in the last sixty years.

In the 1960s, eastern religions started to flood into our country. These religions did not believe in a personal, transcendent God who created all things. Rather, they taught, in one form or another, that man could ascend to Godhood. Many believed that animals were just a lower form on the pursuit of deity. The New Age movement epitomizes this religious conviction. It is now taught throughout our society. Television, magazines, and our public school and university system has adopted in part or whole the basic tenets of New Age philosophy. This “New Age” religion is not new though. It is the lie of Satan from the very beginning when he seduced Eve by deceptively entreating her; “…Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil,” Genesis 3:4-5. The New Age Movement is repackaged Hinduism, sprinkled with smatterings of other beliefs, to foster the great lie of Satan that man can become a god.

The United States has swallowed this demonic teaching in a major way. The secular world has whole-heartedly embraced this teaching since it has been re-packaged in a non-religious setting. Cults such as Mormonism boldly teach this lie to their adherents.  Even some so-called “Christian” preachers propagate this lie of Satan. Men like Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, and others of their ilk teach that we can become gods.

God’s Judgment on the U.S.

A society or nation that has left the path of righteousness they were founded on becomes un-thankful and vain, and starts to worship self and creatures is ripe for destruction. Our next verse, Romans 1:24, starts to unfold God’s judgment on any nation that follows this course. First, notice that the following results are a judgment of God. Verse 24 says, “Wherefore God also gave them up…”  Verse 26 tells us, “For this cause God gave them up…” And verse 28 clearly states, “God gave them over…”

The first judgment from God is that of heterosexual sins in the society. “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves,” Romans 1:24. As a product of the university system of the 1960s, I well remember the movement to open co-ed dormitories and the drive for “free sex.” Things such as the hedonistic pop festival “Woodstock” gave vent to the crusade for uninhibited sexual freedom. In observing the decade of the 1960s, some commentators called it the “Sexual Revolution” decade. From God’s perspective, it was the beginning of His judgment on the United States.

This judgment comes when we make God in our own image. When man becomes the final arbiter of right and wrong and caters to self. As the writer of Romans describes the society; “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen,” Romans 1:25. The United States has been in this deplorable condition for many years. The “rights” of women, children, animals, and even perverted lifestyles are the norm. Very few ask what is “right” based on the moral code of God in the activities of our nation. God turns this society over to unbridled heterosexual sin and the accompanying social problems.

The next step of judgement on a nation that turns from God by becoming un-thankful and worshiping the creatures instead of the Creator is that of homosexual sin. Notice carefully what Romans 1:26 and 27 tells us. “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”

Men having sex with men. Women having sex with women. Make no mistake about what is taking place. God is sending judgment. Also, notice they will “receiv(e) in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” A result of this lifestyle will be physical problems.  The plague of aids on the homosexual society is vastly greater than on any other segment of our society. Meet speaks of that which is right or proper. If man insists on living an immoral lifestyle he will reap the consequences.

When the decade of the 1980’s closed, it was trumpeted as the “Gay Rights Revolution.” Actors, politicians, business men, and others were encouraged to “come out of the closet.” “Gay Pride” parades were started. This avalanche of homosexual activities has continued to sweep through our country. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States recognized same-sex marriage. A June 1, 2020 Gallup poll reported that 67% of Americans support same-sex marriage.2 The spiritual blindness of our society does not allow people to see the truth about this issue. The rampant homosexuality in the United States is a judgment from God.

The final judgement of God that we find in this passage is of a nation that is morally abandoned. Verse 28 tells us, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”  The United States has been systematically legislating God out of our society for the last 60 years. The anti-religious laws passed are a symptom of a greater problem in our society. The move towards a reprobate nation is captured in a February 21, 2019 article in the Federalist, by Stella Morabito.3 Titled The Pedophile Project: Your 7-Year-Old Is Next On the Sexual Revolution’s Hit Parade, she states: “Activists for normalizing pedophilia are on the move. Public acceptance of adult sex with children is the next domino poised to fall in identity politics. It’s being sustained, among other things, by the rapid sexualization of children in the media and in K-12 education. We cannot dismiss the campaign to legalize pedophilia as fringy stuff that will get nowhere. It’s real and it’s here and it’s gaining strength. It’s a very logical outgrowth of the nihilism inherent in the sexual revolution.” As a country, we have reached the point where we do not want His rule. We will not accept His moral strictures.

Is it any wonder that we have seen things in the last thirty years that were at one time completely foreign to our country and culture. Serial killers, mass killings, millions of abortions, and a host of perverted activities abound in our country. The few cries for moral restraint and righteous laws have had little effect over the years. The public continues to vote into office those who have little, if any, moral underpinning.

This passage dealing with God’s judgment on a society closes with problems that will be rampant in the nation that turns its back on God. “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful, Romans 1:29-31. Meditate for a moment on this list and ask yourself if this does or does not characterize the United States?  Unfortunately, this list mirrors life in the United States.

Ultimately, this society doesn’t care what God has to say. Knowing it is wrong it still marches to the same beat. “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” The conscience of this society becomes so scarred and jaded it doesn’t matter any more. It actually has pleasure in unrighteous acts and defying God.

Conclusion

Everything that God can do to a society in judgment based on Romans 1:21-32 is already present in the United States to one degree or another. The six sins that resulted in the destruction of Babylon are also prevalent in the United States to one degree or another.

The sobering reality is that God does judge nations; is judging the United States; and one day will destroy this country because of her sins if we don’t repent. September 11, 2001 saw the first successful major terrorist attack in the United States when the World Trade Center of New York City and the Pentagon of Washington D.C. were attacked. Perhaps it was a warning to our country. Maybe God is trying to get our attention. If it was a warning, we certainly have not heeded it.

No nation lives forever. All are destined for destruction. The United States is no different. Sooner or later, this nation will be destroyed. Despair, though, need not be the lot of a citizen of this country nor any country facing God’s ultimate judgment. One verse in the Isaiah 47 passage, verse 4, tells of the ultimate hope for individuals in any nation. “As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.”  Our hope and future should not be tied up in the politics of our nation, the strength of our military, nor the wealth of Wall Street. Our hope, the only hope, is in Jesus, the redeemer.

Jesus came to earth to die for our sins. And, we are all sinners. Through His death, burial, and resurrection He paid the penalty for our sins before a holy God. When we accept the payment of His life in our place, we are forgiven our sins, and have a home awaiting us in heaven. As the scripture tells us, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” Romans 10:9,10,13.

Nations come and go. Leaders rise and fall. Fame is fleeting. Wealth is illusionary. But, He, His kingdom, and His children will abide forever. Jesus is the only hope that lasts!
