I saw a sign for this ministry and instantly I was intregued. As I was reading through the site I saw that the charismatic movement is not approved of and I would like to know why.

Hi Jennifer,
We believe the sign gifts were temporary – 1 Corinthians 13:8; authenticating “signs of the apostles,” thus having a unique purpose in the 1st century – 2 Corinthians 12:12; the apostles were foundational in the church, the church is now toward its top floor with the foundation laid 2,000 years ago – Ephesians 2:20; tongues were a sign of judgment to unbelieving Jews, not for the church as a “prayer language” – 1 Corinthians 14:21-22; and a known language – Acts 2:6-11. Because of these the practice of tongues (and miracles) as done by the charismatic movement is not biblical. Jewish Awareness Ministries also believes we have a closed canon and when someone speaks in tongues, and it is interpreted, or through dreams and visions, according to them this is a message from God. This is adding to the Bible which we believe is unbiblical (Revelation 22:18-19).
I understand your concern about tongues. I do not speak in tongues, but I believe the Almighty can give that gift, or any other gift, to any believer at any time.
More importantly, however, I believe the manifestation of tongues in Acts 2 was a result of the “former rain” being fulfilled which led to a great harvest of souls. I believe a “latter rain” will fall in our future as well. The Holy Spirit will be poured out again to fulfill the latter rain leading to many souls being saved at that time.
It is quite possible that the gifts manifested in Acts 2 will be manifested once again as a result of the latter rain. We need to be open to the possibility of this occurring and not dismiss such a future manifestation as being “unbiblical”.
